Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) hands-on demonstrations were the highlight of this year’s GM Student Corps at University of Detroit Mercy.

College of Engineering & Science faculty and students pulled out all the stops for the fifth annual Day in the ‘D’ featuring the cool things engineering and science students do.

GM Student Corp high school students participated in five stations throughout the High Bay including liquid nitrogen ice cream, civil engineering concrete canoe, paper structure building competition, robotics and drones, and a biology lesson from Dr. Grabowski featuring his hissing cockroaches.

More than 150 high school students from 15 schools in Metro Detroit, Flint and Pontiac participated in the event.

Since its introduction in 2013, the GM Student Corps has provided nearly 500 summer internships, 50 school improvement projects and more than 50 park renovations.
